The Resort of Agia Pelagia

The apartments are located in the peaceful and picturesque fishing village of Agia Pelagia, a 20-minute drive from the main airport of Heraklion. Although gaining in popularity, the resort with its wooded hills, olive groves and beautiful golden beaches remains relatively un-commercialised and the crystal clear sea is ideal for swimming, paragliding and water skiing. The bay of Agia Pelagia is particularly sheltered and remains calm throughout the year.

The Beaches

The main beach is ideal for small children. They can be readily seen and the beach slopes very gently into a calm and shallow sea for some distance. Pebble beach, an approximate 10-minute walk from the apartments is very peaceful and picturesque but the sea gets deep very quickly and is not ideal for children unless they are content to paddle in the shallows. Lagaria beach, a favourite with visitors, is a 10 minute drive away and so too is the beach at Fodele, El Grecos birthplace.

Eating Out

Around the bay and overlooking the sea are a number of good and very good restaurants and taverna's. All with their unique style, the best in our view is La Gourmet, a family run restaurant providing the best of international and Greek cuisine where our guests enjoy a 10% discount. At the other end of the bay another of our favourites is Cochili, a traditional and charming family run taverna. A three course Greek dinner for two, including a carafe of house wine costs approx £25. A litre of premium Greek lager is approx £1.10 and English cigarettes cost approx £1.40 for twenty. Good Cretan wine costs £4 to £5 a bottle but lesser wines can be purchased for £3.00 or under. Food from supermarkets is typically less than half the cost in the UK. Petrol is approx 67p per litre
